Tortoise Shell Small Sashiko Template

Tortoise Shell also known as Kikkōzashi or simply Kikko (turtle shell), is a traditional Japanese Sashiko stitch, consisting of interlocking hexagons that mimic a turtle shell.

This geometric pattern symbolises longevity, protection and good fortune, often associated with the armour of the Buddhist guardian deity Bishamonten.

Create stunning patterns with this precision-cut 4" sashiko template.

The unique marking system on our Indigo Niche Templates allows you to easily mark fabric for stitching.

Our Tortoise Shell Sashiko Template is available in 2 different materials:

Mylar:

  • transparent for accurate placement
  • thin - making them suitable to be used with a variety of pens and markers
  • flexible - can be used on uneven layers of fabric or over embroideries and small embellishments
  • will not crack like a traditional acrylic template
  • designed and manufactured in Australia at small family operated businesses from 100% recyclable product

Acrylic: Our Acrylic Templates are made of 2 millimetre thick, transparent acrylic material, similar to patchwork rulers. These templates are quite solid and do not have any movement or flex to them. Due to this they are a little more delicate and if dropped could crack. If using our acrylic material template a Sewline or Bohin ceramic pencil is best as they fit perfectly through the very fine stitch marking cut outs in the template.
